In early 1998, the first cooperative joint venture (CJV) in the Chinese explosive industry was formed by ICI Australia (later Orica Australia)

Orica (Weihai –OEW) have two factories an d their related infrastructure on a green fields site in the village of Gushan, Weihai, Shan dong Province. These facilities will include an “Exel” non-electric detonator plant of 14 million units capacity an d a Powergel explosive plant of 3000 tonnes capacity. OEW got the SGS ISO9001:2000 certification in 2006 . Eight years after OMS entry into China, OEW has developed its business with over 200 employees serving over 140 domestic customers in open cut mines, underground non-coal mines, quarries an d constructions.
